No, they are not the same. Microsoft 365 Copilot uses OpenAI's GPT models, which ChatGPT is also based on; in addition, it offers Anthropic's Claude models. Which one to choose?

Copilot stands out: If your company already uses Microsoft 365, most of the work is done in Outlook, Teams, and Office documents, and your IT team wants to manage authorizations, labels, and control in one place.

ChatGPT may be preferred: In teams working on a non-Microsoft 365 infrastructure, or simply in need of independent chat, code, or content generation.

For many organizations, the real question is not "which model is smarter" but "does artificial intelligence work where efficiency is and by following my authorization rules". Copilot's ability to modify models makes model competition secondary to the user.

Beware of the risk of shadow artificial intelligence

Pasting company documents into employees' personal ChatGPT accounts poses a risk in terms of KVKK and trade secrets.
