Most of us got to know Copilot in 2023. The chat window that came to Bing, then that little icon that appeared in Word, Excel, Teams. However, the story did not begin in 2023. The name and the idea of "Copilot" first appeared in a code editor, and its foundations were laid two years before that. In this article, I tell the story behind the timeline I prepared. My goal is not to list dates. Seeing where we came from is the shortest way to understand where we are going.
